INTRODUCTION TO REIKI
Reiki, pronounced "Ray - key"
is from the Japanese words Rei - meaning universal Chi - our life
force - our bodily energy. Reiki is the vital life energy within
all of us. It is the power that acts and lives in all space and
all created matter. Reiki originated in Tibet over 2000 years
ago.
It re-emerged in the late 1800's in Japan by Christian theologian Dr.
Mikao Usui. This took place through his fasting pilgrimage that
lasted 21 days. Dr. Usui spent the rest of his life sharing Reiki
energy through healing and teaching. In the 1940's Mrs. Hawayo Takata
a student of Dr. Usui brought Reiki into North America.
Reiki therapy is a hands-on, or slightly above the body,
healing technique. This technique facilitates the flow of healing
energy around and through the body. The energy flow is extremely
gentle and subtle. Sometimes our life force/energy can become
"stuck" or "blocked" due to our culture or the lifestyle we choose.
These blockages can manifest themselves in the disguise stress,
anger, illness, or dis-ease (discomfort). Using Reiki can help
the body become free of these blockages on many different levels.
It can bring balance to the mind, body and spirit. As
with most therapies, the experience is unique to each individual.
It has been noted that the release of negative energy and even bodily
healing has occurred with Reiki treatments throughout the world.
RIEKI TRAINING
Reiki training involves much more than learning about energy and
hands on healing. The heart of Reiki is the act of energy transference
and special attunements given by the Reiki Master. At each level the
Reiki Master passes universal energy on to the student. This opens
the student to the universal life force. The student, once trained and
attuned by their teacher/Master will then be able to tap into this
energy directly. Generally, a Reiki Master teaches Reiki in three
levels.
Reiki Level I training involves learning about the history
of and re-emergence of Reiki. The student learns to connect with
life energy. They learn self-treatment techniques, self-awareness
and the art of using Reiki principles as a way of life.
Reiki Level II training consists of learning specific hand
positions for working on other people. Special symbols are memorized.
These symbols are used to draw in healing energy for 1:1 healing or for
remote or absentee healing. The student will practice these techniques
on their Reiki Master/teacher before being accepted to the next level.
Not everyone will be a candidate for Level III, but if you have practiced
the techniques, have the spiritual skills and the dedication in your heart
the next level will await you. Reiki Level III (Master Level)
teaches you how to teach others. You will learn a new symbol (personal
to you) that facilitates the passing on of this universal energy. Again,
you will practice on your Teacher and usually be observed as you practice
on your first few clients. When your teacher is sure you are ready to be on
your own you will officially Graduate! You will then be a Reiki Master
My personal Experience with Reiki
Learning Reiki has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me.
find myself seeking more information on it as the years go by. My
skills improve daily. I am very sensitive to levels of
energy that are within me and especially energy that is near me.
It is a subtle awareness, yet at the same time extremely powerful.
Little things, like feeling emotions in a room full of people,
or knowing something is wrong with a friend before they tell you,
are just a few examples of what has happened with my awareness raised.
I can feel negative and positive "vibs" from strangers... this is
a good alarm system for me. It lets me know whether to get close
or back away from a certain person. I subconsciously read the energy
of others for my own benefit. I don't really think about it, it just
happens! Sometimes I'm not even aware of it.... Unless, of course,
my 'alarm' goes off.
Gaining knowledge usually requires
study and schooling. I chose my Reiki Master, attended the school
and to this day continue to study and practice my skills.
I am currently working on my Level III, Master level.
Now please don't be confused here. A skilled Level II practitioner can
be very powerful with the energy work and confidently help the person in need.
Think of a physician's assistant. They have, just for speculations sake,
90% of the education they need to become a doctor, with this knowledge they
help many patients. Knowing when they complete that last 10% of education and
internship they will be a Certified Doctor. Relate that to Reiki.
Think of the Reiki practitioner Level I as a doctor's helper, they stand in
the doctors office, observe the doctor and hand him the tools he needs.
The Reiki level II practitioner begins to work with the tools under the guidance
of the doctor (or in this case the Reiki Master).
The Reiki Level III practitioner is now called a Reiki Master (using this analogy
the Reiki Master would now be the doctor, having completed their education). The
Reiki Master is now the teacher, ready to teach this ancient art to the next generation
of seekers.
MY REIKI REWARD
Reiki is a very special gift for me.
All of my clients receive a warm soothing touch of healing energy given
with great universal love. Beyond simply studying the Art of Reiki, I have it in
my heart and soul. This is another tool I have chosen to incorporate into
my holistic approach of helping others. I am walking a very special path of awareness,
always seeking enlightenment. I invite you to join me on my journey.
I hope the above information explains Reiki
to you in a way that you can understand it clearly. Please feel free to contact me if
you would like more information.
